This event will offer over 70 advanced training institutes and workshops which address all aspects of child maltreatment including prevention, assessment, intervention and treatment with victims, perpetrators and families affected by physical, sexual and psychological abuse and neglect. Cultural considerations will also be addressed.

Seminars have been designed primarily for professionals in mental health, medicine and nursing, law, law enforcement, education, prevention, research, advocacy, child protection services, and allied fields.

This seminar will include a facilitated discussion of behaviors that occur in the school setting including a description of the behaviors, the hypothesized causes of the behavior and the trends of behavior within the school setting. This workshop will include simple but effective tools to use when treating individuals with depression, anxiety and other mood disorders. Current /recent research will be presented to show how these techniques improve symptoms of mood disorders. Self-compassion can powerfully influence our client’s well-being. Teaching it to clients has lifelong benefits for them personally and in their relationships. Workshop participants learn about the many aspects of self-compassion including: understanding the need, the role of mindfulness, how self-compassion affects strong emotions, self-concept and relationships, the importance of balanced compassion and specific techniques and homework assignments to share with clients to enable them to access self-compassion when needed. 3.0 Clinical hours. Motivational interviewing is an evidence-based practice developed by William Miller and Stephen Rollnick to explore and resolve ambivalence around behavioral health change by focusing on change talk. This collaborative approach to working with clients also works well within the supervisory relationship. The purpose of this workshop is to help clinical supervisors apply motivational interviewing in supervision as well as reflect on their own strengths and areas for improvement. 3.0 Clinical/Supervision hours.
