When appropriate for children, frequent family time can help maintain healthy connections and lessen the negative impact of separation for both the child and the family. The phrase “family time” is utilized based on the premise that the term “visitation” does not adequately communicate the intimacy and importance of the parent/child relationship. Instead of a one-size-fits-all family time plan, contact should be specifically tailored to meet the individual needs of the child and family involved in the CINC case. Dr. Amy Dickson of the LSU Health Sciences Center will offer insight into family time from a trauma-informed lens and attachment framework. She will inform us about options for maximizing the quality of family time and factors for consideration.
