Extended School Year (ESY) Services - Tuesday, March 28, 2017, 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm: Extended school year (ESY) services are required special education and related services provided beyond the limits of the school term, in accordance with the child's individualized education program (IEP), and at no cost to the parents. These services are necessary in order to provide a free appropriate public education (FAPE). This webinar will be an opportunity to learn more about the federal regulations that specifically address ESY services. Additionally, it will provide parents with the information on requesting these services and how IEP teams determine the need for ESY services.

On May 10, 2017, from 2 to 3 p.m. ET, OJJDP, in collaboration with the Raise the Age Training and Technical Assistance Center, will present "Raising the Age of Criminal Responsibility: Lessons Learned From States That Have Undertaken Policy Shifts." This webinar will discuss the experiences of seven states that have successfully raised the age of criminal responsibility to 18 years of age. Participants will learn the strategies that states have used to contain costs and enhance public safety while absorbing youth who are 16 and 17 years of age into their juvenile justice systems. This is the second webinar in the Raise the Age Training and Technical Assistance Center Webinar Series.

The presenter will discuss a Seattle coalition that is working to end commercial sexual exploitation by reducing sex buying. The webinar will cover strategies that include high-volume online deterrence, social media, community and high school education, business and media engagement, law enforcement stings, and a 10-week class for individuals convicted of soliciting sex.

The Fox Valley Technical College AMBER Alert Training and Technical Assistance Program will host the AMBER Alert in Indian Country: Child Protection Symposium on June 1-2, 2017, in Bismarck, ND. This event will address child protection issues in Indian Country, including child exploitation, human trafficking, and endangered and abducted children. Participants will learn how to identify AMBER Alert best practices for their community, gather resources to increase public safety, and work with tribal law enforcement to address missing and exploited children issues.

National Reunification Month Webinar: Innovative Practices to Promote Reunification

What:

Successful foster care support and reunification programs give caregivers a voice not only in issues that affect the children for whom they are caring but also in the way the system treats children and families. Keeping families connected and caregivers supported is imperative to increasing foster care placement stability and the chance of successful reunification.

This webinar will highlight two specific programs from Nevada and Louisiana that support reunification and emphasize caregiver and parent voice. Presenters will explore how parent engagement and involvement can lead to better outcomes, including increased placement stability, reduced use of group care, reduced sibling separation, and increased successes in reunification by improving parent and child relationships.

Legislative Wrap-Up & Annual Meeting

The Louisiana Partnership for Children & Families tracks legislative actions in the Louisiana legislative sessions annually. They hold an annual wrap-up meeting following the general session at the West Baton Rouge Conference Center in Port Allen, Louisiana. Register by June 9th to attend. Lunch is provided. Members of the Partnership may attend for free, but must register.

Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne will be the keynote speaker.

If you are a parent of an individual with disabilities who receives waiver services or if you are an adult with disabilities who receives waiver services you are invited to attend a Self Direction Training for Waiver Services on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 1 PM to 3:30 PM at Beauregard Parish Library - DeRidder Branch in the Rotary Meeting Room, 205 South Washington Street, DeRidder, LA 70634.

Join us as we hear from presenter Jeannie Doiron on "My Family's Experience with Self Direction!"  Come hear how her family benefits from self-direction and manages the responsibilities of self-direction for waiver services.

If you have questions about your ability to self-direct your waiver

services and how your family can benefit from self-direction for waiver services this training is for you!

If you cannot find a sitter, children will be welcomed.

Webinar To Discuss Teaching Children About Consent

On July 26, 2017, from 2 to 3:15 p.m. ET, OJJDP, in collaboration with the National Criminal Justice Training Center of Fox Valley Technical College, will present "Teaching Children About Consent." This webinar will examine and define "consent" in the context of sexual assault prevention and sex education. The focus of the webinar will be on the need to establish healthy boundaries, build healthy relationships, and promote human dignity. Law enforcement, social workers, forensic interviewers, sexual assault nurse examiners, victim advocates, juvenile court personnel, prosecutors, and other child serving professionals are encouraged to attend.
