Bridging Prevention and Child Welfare During COVID-19 to Strengthen Families: It Takes a Community

As families and communities struggle during this difficult time, we are hearing about incidences of violence and child abuse and neglect rising, along with families being stressed more than ever. At the same time, we know that in many communities creative, “out of the box” efforts are taking place to help individuals and families deal with the challenges they are having to face. Existing prevention programs like those funded through the Community-Based Child Abuse Prevention Programs (CBCAP) are being leveraged to support families, build their resilience and other protective factors, and prevent child maltreatment from happening. This webinar will provide an overview of the CBCAP and share examples of how CBCAP prevention programs are responding to the pandemic. In addition, a representative from the Arizona Department of Child Safety’s (DCS) Office of Prevention and a Parent Leader in Arizona, who is also on the FRIENDS Parent Advisory Council, will share specific services and strategies Arizona’s CBCAP funded programs are using to support families and prevent child maltreatment from happening during the pandemic and beyond.
