Safety: Continuous Quality Assessment in Child Welfare Cases through Child Welfare Assessment & Decision-Making (Mon. 25 Jan, 2021 9:00 am - Tue. 26 Jan, 2021 9:00 am)

Join us for this two-day ONLINE training event focused on ensuring safety of children involved in the child welfare system. This training will look at the new Child Welfare Assessment & Decision Making-Model utilized by DCFS child welfare workers and other tools to evaluate the safety and risk issues of our most vulnerable children. New court forms will be introduced and reviewed. This course will reinforce the system focus that “removal of a child from their family is the safety plan of last resort.” 

Course Objectives:

Learners will be able to define related terms.
Learners will be able to apply the principles of Child Welfare Assessment Decision Making Model to a new set of facts in order to assess a child’s safety.
Learners will be able to apply the principles of Child Welfare Assessment Decision Making Model to create practical safety plans.
Learners will be able to articulate the Child Welfare Assessment Decision Making Model analysis to support or defend safety decision making.
Learners will demonstrate an understanding of the Child Welfare Assessment Decision Making Model analysis as a tool for in and/or out- of- court advocacy for their client(s).

Updated Guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics on the Treatment of Infants with Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome Webinar (Tue. 26 Jan, 2021 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm)

Dr. Stephen Patrick, a national leader on the implications of maternal opioid use on infants and primary author of the new guidance on Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS) from the American Academy of Pediatrics, will provide two hour-long sessions to share his expertise.

Save the Dates:

Tuesday, January 26, 10:30 – 11:30am (PST); 1:30 – 2:30pm (EST) will provide up-to-date information on the opioid crisis, implications for the mother/infant dyad; an overview of American Academy of Pediatrics’ revised guidance on NOWS which provides recommendations for management of the infant with opioid exposure, including clinical presentation, assessment, treatment, and discharge planning.

Thursday, January 28, 10:30 – 11:30am (PST); 1:30 – 2:30pm (EST) Dr. Patrick will be available for a 1-hour “Dialogue with Experts” session to take questions, discuss implications of infants with NOWS, and provide lessons from the Vanderbilt Center for Child Health Policy.

Initial Response Strategies and Tactics When Responding to Missing Children Incidents (Wed. 27 Jan, 2021 8:00 am - 5:00 pm)

In the initial response to endangered missing or child abduction incidents, accurate and timely situational assessments, and immediate resource deployment are critical.

During this training, first responders will gain knowledge of the investigative activities that occur during an endangered missing or child abduction investigation, and how their actions influence the short- and long-term response of law enforcement.

Learn the impact the missing and/or abducted child incident has on the family and how this can impact your response.
