Principles of Adolescent Substance Use Disorder Treatment: A Research-Based Guide

Published by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), this guide focuses on adolescent substance use and the special treatment needs of young people ages 12 to 17.  It presents research-based principles of adolescent substance use disorder treatment and covers treatment for a variety of drugs, including illicit and prescription drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.  This guide also addresses frequently asked questions; provides information on various treatment settings and evidence-based behavioral and family-based approaches unique to treating adolescent substance use disorders; and presents available recovery support services and treatment referral resources.  (January 2014)
