INTRODUCTION
The Code Book for the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS) is a product of National Data Archive on Child Abuse and Neglect (NDACAN). NDACAN is funded by the Children’s Bureau, Administration on Children, Youth and Families, Administration for Children and Families, Department of Health and Human Services. NDACAN supports secondary analysis of its datasets by providing technical support.
To assist individuals using the NDACAN AFCARS Foster Care File, this code book includes information on the NDCAN version of the AFCARS Foster Care File (FC). The NDACAN foster care data file differs from the version of the FC file that States send to the Children’s Bureau. See the User’s Guide for details on differences.
