A recent study, “Child-Reported Family Violence: A Systemic Review of Available Instruments,” explores the role of children in reporting family violence. Specifically, the reviewers identify and appraise available child self-report measures for screening and assessment of family violence in both clinical and research settings.
Screening refers to an early identification strategy for family violence and can be used in mental health, family and child health, and family law settings. Assessment is a more indepth intervention used to support children and families where family violence has already been identified or where there is a risk of family violence. For example, family stressors such as substance use, financial instability, and mental health challenges are risk factors for family violence.
