Relative Caregiving Facts FFY 2014: Louisiana

This fact sheet provides statistics on number and characteristics of foster children living with relative foster families in Louisiana and in the United States. Information is provided on the number of foster children living with relatives, the age of the children placed with a relative foster family, the race and ethnicity of children placed with a relative foster family, guardianship for children in foster care, the number of children existing foster care to guardianship, the age of children who exited foster care to guardianship and those adopted by relatives, the race and ethnicity of children who existed foster care to guardianship and those adopted by relatives, and funding for guardianship. Findings indicate that for Fiscal Year 2014, there were 1,507 children in foster care whose most recent placement was with a relative foster family in Louisiana, the majority of children placed with a relative foster family were between the ages of 1-5 years old (45%), less than 1%of children in foster care had a case plan goal of guardianship and the average age of the child was 15.3 years, there were 760 children who exited to guardianship (22% of children exiting foster care), and the Federal KinGAP program dollars spent by the State totaled $152,535 in State Fiscal Year 2014.
